A testimony to more than 40 years dedicated to passion and mission in life
This book is a summary of Daniel Koupermann's memoirs, done at the request of his three children, who asked him to write the stories he would tell them when he returned from his travels.
Daniel was educated as a hotel manager so that he could continue with the family business. While managing the family's two hotels in Cuenca and answering the call of his passion for natural history and outdoor activities, he began to offer horseback riding tours and condor watching in the Cajas National Park. This experience connected him with the activity of adventure tourism.
Because of an episode with a former leader of the Shuar Federation, he was invited to an Amazonian community where he was dazzled by the culture, the people and the tropical rainforest. This led him to discover a place in the Ecuadorian Amazon called Miazal behind the Cutucú mountain range. Miazal is where he began his activity as a tour operator, offering adventure and nature tourism linked to the traditions of the Shuar people.

After 12 years of working in the Amazon, he was asked by a tourism corporation that operated a luxury cruise ship in the Galapagos Islands to help them develop a luxury lodge in the Amazon rainforest. For Daniel, this was the opportunity to realize an idea that was born during the 12 years he spent in Shuar territory.
Now he could do something to give back to the teachings he had received, but more importantly, to help conserve the Amazon forest and overcome the poverty of the communities that inhabit it. Now he could commit to the Kapawi Ecolodge's development in the lower Pastaza River in Achuar territory, which was a unique model at the time. It was the first joint venture between a capitalist corporation and an indigenous organization.
After establishing the Kapawi operation, he was called upon to contribute to the Galapagos cruise making it more harmonious with the conditions of one of the most important natural parks in the world. He dedicated 17 years to the construction and operation of the Kapawi Ecolodge project and the Galapagos Explorer II, establishing protocols of good environmental, social and operational practices.
Daniel then established his own business, Andean Paths Journeys (www.andeanpathsjourneys.com), offering trips to Ecuador, Guatemala, Peru, Colombia, Patagonia and Mexico. In these journeys he offers a link with the ancestral peoples, their traditions and knowledge, which he uses as insights for personal and spiritual growth of his clients, and an economic support for the indigenous communities he visits.
